Presentation title: Diversification of land use in Finland and legacy effects gained on farmers’ fields based on satellite images
Description:
Diversification of agricultural land use is progressing at a historically rapid pace in Finland, where spring barley, spring oats, and perennial grasslands dominated the agricultural landscapes until the end of the 20th century. This presentation highlights what has enabled and challenged such a dramatic change. What kind of bottlenecks need to be addressed to make further progress? And how methods developed in LUKE, based on spatial, remote sensing, and farmer survey data, can further support farmers in transitioning towards more sustainable and climate-resilient agricultural systems?
